lpg storage tanks are specialized equipment used to store liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for various industrial and commercial purposes. So, what are LPG storage tanks, how are they structured, and what are their practical uses? Let's explore an overview of some key points about LPG storage tanks in the following article!
1. A brief overview of LPG tanks
What are LPG storage tanks, how are they structured, and what is the price of LPG storage tanks in the market? Let's find out with Gas South.
1.1 What is an LPG tank?
An LPG tank, also known as an LPG container, industrial gas tank, compressed gas tank, or liquefied gas tank, is a special device designed to store liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). LPG is a hydrocarbon gas mixture commonly used as fuel in industrial, agricultural, and commercial sectors. To facilitate transportation and storage, LPG is typically liquefied at high pressure and stored in LPG tanks.
LPG storage tanks are specialized equipment for storing LPG
Due to LPG's rapid expansion in air and flammability, LPG storage tanks must ensure very strict quality requirements to limit the risks of fire and explosion during use. To meet the storage and usage needs of LPG more conveniently in business operations, LPG storage tanks are designed in two main forms: upright and horizontal, depending on storage space and the needs of the using unit.

1.2 Structure of LPG storage tanks
Industrial gas tanks are typically made from materials with good hardness and corrosion resistance, such as SUS304, SUS201, SUS316, CT3, SS400, black steel, white steel, etc. They consist of four main components as follows:
Tank body: usually cylindrical, rectangular, or square in shape, designed with three layers: an outer metal shell, a vacuum insulation layer in the middle, and an inner shell containing gas to provide insulation to limit the expansion of liquid gas due to temperature increase.
Tank lid: usually flat, conical, or pointed in shape, to increase the tank's pressure resistance.
Tank bottom: usually has a similar shape and structure to the tank cover.
Tank legs: typically designed with round or L-shaped legs to support the entire LPG storage tank.
In addition to the above four components, LPG storage tanks are also equipped with shut-off valves and safety valves to reduce internal pressure and ensure safety during use. Specific types of valves and sensors that come with industrial gas tanks include:
Safety valve
Temperature sensor
Thermometer
Weight sensor
Flange
Sight glass
Pressure sensor
Thermometer sensor
Heating system
Motor control stirrer via a frequency converter.

1.3 Basic regulations on LPG storage tank standards
The design, installation, and operation of LPG storage tanks require a very high level of safety to limit serious fire and explosion incidents that may occur. Therefore, according to Section 3, Article 3 of QCVN 10/2012/BCT issued by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, specific regulations on the safety of LPG supply stations have been established. Accordingly, the process of building LPG storage tanks must meet the technical standards set forth. In addition, the process of using LPG storage tanks also needs to be strictly monitored and inspected every 3 years to ensure safety and limit fire and explosion incidents.
1.4 How much does an LPG storage tank cost??
The price of an LPG storage tank mainly depends on the following 4 factors:
Age: Typically, used LPG tanks have a lower price compared to brand-new tanks.
Capacity: Depending on the capacity, the price of the storage tank will vary. The most common capacities are 5 tons, 10 tons, 20 tons, 30 tons, 40 tons, and 50 tons, depending on the specific usage requirements.
Material and Thickness: The type of steel and the thickness of the steel used in the manufacturing process will affect the price, durability, and safety of the tank.
Supplier: Tanks with the same capacity and material may have price variations among different manufacturers.
In addition to the above-mentioned factors, the price of LPG storage tanks also depends on transportation costs and installation expenses. Generally, LPG storage tanks with capacities ranging from 5 to 10 tons will have prices ranging from 400 to 500 million VND. For the most accurate price quotation, customers can contact Gas South for detailed advice.
2. Applications of LPG storage tanks
LPG storage tanks are essential equipment for storing and distributing liquefied petroleum gas in various fields such as agriculture, residential use, commercial use, and industrial applications, ensuring:
Stable, safe, and economical fuel supply to prevent interruptions in production and business operations due to energy shortage.
Flexible LPG storage solutions with different capacities ranging from 5 tons to 50 tons to meet the needs of customers.
Above-ground or underground LPG tanks to optimize storage space for customers.
Safe LPG storage solutions with vaporization systems, alarms, pressure regulation, explosion prevention, and convenient maintenance.
LPG storage tanks are widely used in many manufacturing industries
LPG storage tanks are widely applied in various industrial sectors. In the industrial manufacturing sector, LPG storage tanks are commonly used in industries such as brick and tile production, ceramics, glass, handicraft manufacturing, metallurgy, metal cutting, mechanical processing, and food processing. In the commercial sector, LPG storage tanks provide flexible fuel storage solutions for hotels, restaurants, schools, supermarkets, and hospitals. In agriculture, LPG storage tanks supply fuel for heating systems to maintain temperature in cold regions. Additionally, small-sized LPG tanks are often installed in large scientific research and laboratory facilities.
