In recent days, a series of measures aimed at energy conservation and carbon reduction have been introduced.

The National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the General Administration of Market Supervision, the National Energy Administration, and other relevant departments jointly issued the "Special Action Plan for Energy Conservation and Carbon Reduction in the Steel Industry" (hereinafter referred to as the "Plan").

According to the plan, by the end of 2025, several key targets are set to be achieved: reducing energy consumption per unit product in blast furnace and converter processes by more than 1% compared with 2023; decreasing energy consumption per unit product in electric arc furnace smelting by more than 2% compared with 2023; lowering comprehensive energy consumption per ton of steel by more than 2% compared with 2023; increasing self-generating rate of residual heat, residual pressure, and residual energy by more than 3 percentage points compared with 2023.

Furthermore, from 2024 to 2025, it is projected that approximately 20 million tons of standard coal will be saved through implementing energy-saving transformations in the steel industry and renewing energy use equipment. This initiative is also expected to result in a reduction of about 53 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
